At the Freedom School of Dance, we believe that dance should be available to everyone - regardless of socioeconomic status.
In 2018, I embarked on a journey to make dance accessible to every child, regardless of their background. As the founder of the Freedom School of Dance, my mission was clear: to create a space where dance could be enjoyed by all, without the barriers of privilege.
Starting with just 17 students, my goal was to keep the program as affordable as possible for their families. I firmly believe that dance is a natural form of human expression and offers countless benefits. It shouldn't be a luxury reserved for those who are financially privileged.
Education and opportunities are society's greatest equalizers, and through the Freedom School of Dance, we are changing the game by providing access to this sport and art form. Dance goes beyond just learning techniques; it instills valuable life lessons. From body awareness and emotional regulation to resilience, rhythm, and history, the benefits are immense. Not to mention the physical advantages, such as increased endurance, strength, flexibility, and improved mental function, that contribute to shaping well-rounded individuals.
Driven by a personal passion for dance and a firsthand understanding of its transformative power, I can't bear the thought of any child missing out on their passion due to financial constraints. Unfortunately, this is a reality for many, but it's a reality we are determined to change.
Our commitment extends beyond low fees. At the Freedom School of Dance, we redefine "accessibility" by reimagining studio policies. We understand the challenges faced by families, particularly those with limited resources, and strive to be more forgiving in our approach. If a student is late, lacks the proper attire, or has missed classes, we believe they should still have the opportunity to participate in class and upcoming performances.
