Mini Dancers

Kids and Toddlers (Ages 18 months to 5 years)

Every Mini Dancers class is sessional.

If you want your child to dance all season, we will have sessions available, and you’ll only have to pay the registration fee once!

KINDER ACRO: You want to give your child the opportunity to roll, flip, and play in a safe and structured class environment. Created by the world-renowned Acro Dance Teachers Association (ADTA), the KinderAcro Program is the highest-quality acro program available for students ages 18 months – 6 years old.

MINI BALLET: An introduction to classical ballet using creative, imaginative role-playing and fun props. This class may involve pretending to be animals, learning to balance, skipping and running and techniques using accessories to help develop their hand-eye coordination. This class is suitable for both boys and girls who are having so much fun that they don't even realize that they are learning the fundamentals of ballet technique along the way.

 

MINI JAZZERS:  Jazz class combines stretching, aerobic exercise, strength, and upbeat movement to create fun and exciting routines. It is a fundamental dance form that complements all other dance styles. FSD follows the ADAPT Jazz syllabus. We recommend Jazz for all students 8 years and up.

MINI MOVERS: A blended dance class where our youngest dancers learn physical coordination and basic dance moves through the use of games and encouragement in a fun and nurturing environment. Dance styles touched include Acro, Jazz and Hip Hop.

MINI TAPPERS: In this class, your child will be learning super fun basic tap skills in an imaginative way. They will learn steps including toe-heel, heel-toe, stamps and shuffles as well as making as much noise as they can in our fun, safe and educational environment.

MINI UKRAINIAN: Ukrainian dance is a technical and energetic dance style that preserves and shares Canadian-Ukrainian culture. We are so excited to be bringing Ukrainian dance to FSD!

Older Dancers

Kids and Teens (Ages 6-18)

All classes for dancers ages 6 to 9 are 12-week or 9-week sessions.

Classes for dancers ages 10 and over are full-season (September to June) except for Acro 101.

ACRO: A genre of dance that fuses elements of gymnastics tricks, balancing, tumbling, and jazz. Students learn tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest stands, walkovers and more! This class helps dancers develop strength and flexibility and is a great supplement for ballet, jazz, or contemporary! FSD follows the ADTA Syllabus.

BALLET:  Establishing proper posture, alignment, and technique, Ballet technique is the foundation of many dance styles. Dancers will learn self-discipline, technique, and musicality while also gaining grace, strength, and confidence. We recommend Ballet to any students interested in Acro, Contemporary, or Jazz! FSD uses the RAD syllabus.

CONTEMPORARY: In this class, students learn to add contemporary styles to their ballet and jazz techniques. We teach techniques from Graham, Horton, and Cunningham. The emphasis in Contemporary is placed on expressing the emotional side of each dancer. 

JAZZ:  Jazz class combines stretching, aerobic exercise, strength, and upbeat movement to create fun and exciting routines. It is a fundamental dance form that complements all other dance styles. FSD follows the ADAPT Jazz syllabus.

HIP-HOP: Hip Hop is an energetic class that involves a diverse range of styles. Our instructors will teach appropriate techniques that make up Hip Hop dance and provide choreography that will keep up with trends and remain culturally sensitive.

MUSICAL THEATRE: A class where telling the story is the focus. Through movement, acting and singing, students will enjoy experiencing multiple ways to approach a performance. Students will learn how to build a character, connect with the audience and recognize the art of improv.

TAP: Dancers will learn creativity, rhythm, and musicality. Born out of vaudeville, Tap is steeped in cultural history. FSD teachers use the ADAPT and Al Gilbert syllabi.
